Player Registration and Transfer Deadline Extended

Due to the delay for season 2020 the committee agreed to extend both the player transfer and registration deadline to 31st August 2020.

The consideration behind the extension is so no player is further deprived of playing cricket and therefore putting the importance of engagement before competition.

Member clubs have started to send in request for transfer and registration of player and we encourage all member clubs to prepare for the season by ensuring their players are registered so they can commence the season if we are given short notice.

Recreational cricket may well still return in early July, despite the government failing to give the all-clear this week.

The sport was not included in a raft of lockdown relaxations announced by prime minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday, sparking disappointment amongst our members

Some of the proposal put to the government by ECB:

  • Short-handed matches of six or eight-a-side
  • Detailed guidelines for how to minimise the risk of transmission of the corona virus. This included specific guidance on how the ball should be handled before, during and after each innings.

ECB had already agreed to ban the use of saliva for the immediate future, throughout the game.

At present, cricketers may take part in outdoor net or practice sessions in groups of up to six people from different households.

We will keep you updated of any changes and maintain optimistic that we will see come cricket this season.
